4 Yearly Modern Awards Review: What’s Been Updated?
3 June 2020
IN BRIEF: In 2014 the Fair Work Commission began its 4 yearly review of Modern Awards. In addition to substantive variations made during the process – which CCER advised members on as they arose – several Awards have been subject to a process of re-drafting to address structural issues and to apply plain-English principles.
New versions of the following Awards incorporating these changes are applicable from the indicated dates:
|Modern Award||Effective Date|
|Banking, Finance and Insurance Award 2020||4 February 2020|
|Cemetery Industry Award 2020||4 February 2020|
|Clerks—Private Sector Award 2020||29 May 2020|
|Educational Services (Post-Secondary Education) Award 2020||13 April 2020|
|Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2020||29 May 2020|
|Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020||18 June 2020|
|Higher Education Industry—General Staff—Award 2020||4 May 2020|
|Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020||29 May 2020|
|Journalists Published Media Award 2020||18 June 2020|
|Labour Market Assistance Industry Award 2020||4 May 2020|
|Miscellaneous Award 2020||18 June 2020|
What Should Employers do?
When referring to specific clauses within an Award – in either formal documentation or in discussions with employees – employers should ensure they refer to the version of the Award that’s in force at the time.
Some employers prefer to print and mark copies of their Award for reference. In this case, we recommend that you replace those with a copy of the new version.
Links to the updated Awards will continue to be available through the CCER website when they become effective.
